13 - Bringing the Apple Back!

I'm not ready to wean off the apple yet. From now on, all of my leafy green juices need to contain an apple especially when paired with slightly bitter tasting vegetables such as collards.

Ingredients:
1 apple (very important!!!)
a couple collard leaves
1/2 cucumber
2 carrots

11 + 12 - Never again

Made a nasty little drink on Friday.

Ingredients:
2 quartered red onion layer
1 collard leaf
1/2 cucumber
1/4 tomato
1/4 lemon
4 carrots

Yucky and I blame it on the red onion x_x

-------------

Got a juice break from the weekend. Boy, I really missed my juices. While the foods were good but it simply feels too much and too unhealthy. Anyways, today I juiced a slight modification from the last beet juice - no apple. I can taste the difference and I really miss the apple!!!

Ingredients:
1 beet with leaves
5 carrots
1/2 lemon

9+10 - New discoveries

Green green, I pink up the phone and I say "Yellow!"

First time using kale leaves in my juice and I'm not convinced that it is awesome. The flavor must be subtle and my other ingredients had stronger flavors that the kale flavor was very well hidden in this uber healthy juice.

Ingredients:
5 carrots
5 kale leaves (mine were small leaves)
1 beet with leaves
1 apple
1 tiny slice of ginger
1 pinch of mint leaves

Taste:
Beets + Carrots + Ginger is readily becoming my favorite combinations! Yes, I'd definitely do this combination again. In general, I feel that leafy greens don't have much of a flavor.

Color:
Dark red. Perfect for a vampire! My strainer had vibrant greens, beet red, and carrot orange. Too bad I didn't get a shot of that.

Juice again?
Oh definitely!

2nd juice of the day! I'm putting my little omega to work!!!

Ingredients:
1/4 papaya
2 grapefruits

Taste:
Can't go wrong here. The sweetness of the papaya may be too strong by itself but when the papaya is combined with the tangy grapefruits, oh how the flavors just mix perfectly together. Harmony.

Color:
Wish I had gotten a picture for you but once again, I was too anxious and drank it immediately... The color was orange-red.

Juice again?
Yes!

8 - Lettuce Turnip the Beet!

Let us turn up the beat!

Another fantastic juice for the day. Success! This little recipe made a little over a normal glass. Just enough to give my roommate a taste and she loved it too! Beware though, while beets are great for the body, they may turn your excretes red. You have been warned.

Ingredients:
1 whole beet with leaves
1/2 apple
5 carrots

7 - Tropical Paradise

Made an especially yummy juice today. Well.. more like smoothie because I didn't use the strainer so all the pulp was kept!

Ingredients:
1/2 papaya
1 cup blueberries
2 cup strawberries
1 cup blackberries

Made 3 cups of pulpy yummy goodness!

6 - Weaning off the apple

Apples are generally used to naturally sweeten the juice but eventually I want to be able to make pure veggie juices with no handicap (the apple). That's what I had done today.

Ingredients:
4 celery stalks
5 carrots
1/2 tomato
1/4 lemon
small slice of ginger
some mint

Again, the lemon was over powering this juice. Maybe I shouldn't combine ginger and lemon together. After all, both of these "spices" up the juice. .

Taste:
Can't taste the tomato and mint at all. Too much lemon/ginger mix.

Color:
Murky and definitely a turn off for most people! haha but that's okay with me. I'm not too picky about the aesthetics.

Juice again? Sure, but choose either ginger or lemon.. cannot have both.

4+5 Apples and Too much lemon

Day 4: Pure organic apple juice

10 x organic gala apples = 3 x 8oz apple juice

Day 5: Too much lemon

I must have been thinking about Liz Lemon from 30 Rock when I made this concoction.. way too much lemon. Not doing half a lemon next time unless I have more apples!

Ingredients:
4 carrots
2 celery stalks
1 handful of spinach
1/2 tomato
5-6 small peppers
mint leaves
1/2 lemon (note to self: 1/4 lemon next time)
1 inch of ginger
